    This is the cult of convenient virtue, where we believe we can absolve ourselves of environmental guilt with a swipe of a credit card. We’re like medieval peasants buying indulgences, hoping to secure a place in ecological heaven without actually changing our sinful ways, or adopting the core tenets of zero waste:     reduce, reuse, and refuse.

    “Sustainable” has become a fashion statement without any real Sustainable Innovation.

    We’re bombarded with “must-have” eco-products, each promising to be the next big thing in saving the planet.

    But just like any other trend, something that is sustainable is subject to the whims of the market. What’s “in” today will be “out” tomorrow, replaced by the next shiny, green stratagem. We’re trapped in a cycle of “sustainable” consumption, where the very act of trying to be eco-friendly becomes another form of waste, nothing to be compared with a zero waste approach.

    This trend cycle creates a constant churn of new products, new packaging, new marketing campaigns, all designed to keep us buying, consuming, and feeling perpetually inadequate.
